5 Day ' Round Island ' Walk of Jersey

Jersey is an island of great variety and beauty, nestling in the Gulf of St Malo

Come and see the island’s beautiful coastline, rocky coves, sandy and surf beaches at your leisure! Nearly 50 miles (80 kms) in five fascinating guided walks. Hear the legends, folklore and find out more about the island’s history. View the archaeological remains, ancient Dolmens, medieval castles and German occupation fortifications Birds, wild flowers and butterflies abound in their varied habitats. Its charm is without comparison.



 

Paths:

Country paths and well maintained cliff paths, occasionally rough with short steep sections.

Easy/Intermediate

Daily distance approx 10 miles (should be a regular walker)

Walking Tour Each Tour runs from Sat to Sat

Day 1– arrive and book into Hotel

Free afternoon—Group meet at 5.00 in bar area of Hotel Lounge bar. Start of Walk

Day 2– St Helier to Corbiere

Leave St Helier go along the firm sand of St Aubins to Noirmont point and the islands war memorial and then into the beautiful bay of St Brelade to Fisherman’s chapel and along the rugged cliff paths to the spectacular setting of the Corbiere Lighthouse

Day 3– Corbiere to Greve de Lecq

Along the island’s west coast and the expanse of St Ouen’s Bay, then passing Pinnacle rock, site of pagan rituals, the race course and Grosnez Castle, view the other islands for the first time. Along the cliff to the finish and visit a pub with it’s own watermill for a well earned drink.

Day 4 - Free Day—options are numerous:

visit one of the fascinating museums: day trip to France or Guernsey or simply enjoy the delights of shopping in St Helier– tax free shopping.

Day 5– Continue island walk Greve de Lecq -to Bouley Bay

This is a strenuous day of undulating cliff paths, but passing some lovely coves and spectacular cliff scenery. View out at sea the Paternosters, where a ship on route to Sark was sunk in 1565, with the loss of all hands. We pass the smugglers cove of Bonne Nuit and then descend sharply to the finish at Bouley Bay. Visit the Black Dog

Day 6– Bouley Bay to Gorey

Continue along cliff path and descend into lovely Rozel Bay,past a Bronze Age camp, a Neolithic Dolman and onward to a 19th century naval harbour at St Catherine’s. Finish below the impressive Mont Orgeuil Castle towering over Royal BayBay of Gouville.

Day 7– Gorey to St Helier

Final and easiest walking conditions, almost flat all the way, if conditions are right we may be able to complete some of the sections on the beach and visit the oyster beds in Grouville bay and then past Le Rocque where an French invasion took place in 1871, resulting in the Battle of Jersey, in the Royal Square. Past Green island another ancient burial site and Victor Hugo’s house and favourite meeting place and Havre des pas where Jersey Ship building yards once where over Mont de la Ville into St Helier. You have now succeed in walking the ‘Round Island Walk’

Day 8

Depart for Home.

Transfer from Jersey Airport:
Our Airport Transfer service operates at this resort, offering quick and easy transfers for guests booking their own flights. All prices are per person for single journeys. These can be arranged to meet any flight to or from the island. Transfers must be pre-booked no later than 5 weeks before departure - we will then confirm all the details approximately 3 weeks before your holiday.

From Jersey Airport

• by Transfer Shuttle £6 single
• By Taxi (no need to book you can get one outside the Airport) £12 to Samares Hotel or Marina Hotel £9 ( guide price)

By Ferry:
High-speed ferries operate from Poole (3hrs 45) and Weymouth (3hrs 15) to Jersey. See www.condorferries.com for further information. Upon arrival at St Helier harbour it is a 3 mile taxi journey to the hotel (cost approx £6.00)
